NSPCC Fourball Betterball Qualifier

For the second year the Ladies Section entered this Charity Competition raising £144 for the NSPCC. A big thank you to everyone who participated to help this excellent charity. 4BBB is a great format for golf and I am sure that everyone enjoyed her game. The winning pair, as last year will represent Wetherby at Pleasington Golf Club. The course is apparently one of the best tests of golf in the North West of England and indeed is a regional qualifying venue for the British Open.

I am sure that Wetherby will be very well represented by our winning couple,

Rosemary Nicholson (now 16 handicap after her superb 39 points in the Stableford) and Sue Smith who plays of 12 handicap. They scored 33 points with the runners up, Greta Higgins playing off 23 and May Bowden who is 18 handicap scoring 31 points and won on the back 9.

A Team Match

The A Team played their first match of the season at a very windy Hallamshire. Only a couple of players had played the course and we decided that it was certainly better for knowing. Having said that the 2 who managed to win were playing their for the first time!! Everyone was giving shots with poor Denise having to give 7, which was certainly a tall order. Sadly the result was a 5 – 2 win to Hallamshire. Better luck next time.

Veterans Championship at Alwoodley

5 members from Wetherby: Kathy, Joan, Merryl, Anne H and Denise competed in these championships and thoroughly enjoyed their day. Over 130 of the best Veterans in Yorkshire were playing and unfortunately no one was in the top 16 so didn’t have to go back the next day. However the sun shone, we all played with some excellent players from other clubs in the area and we certainly didn’t disgrace ourselves or WGC.

Mail on Sunday

The team is playing their 4th round at Wetherby on Friday 25th April against Easingwold. The first player is going out at 11am so if you have a spare hour or so I am sure some support would be very welcome.
